A major advantage of the MobileTree application is its portability. Whether you're sitting in the waiting room of a doctor's office or in a bus on your way to work, MobileTree is at your fingertips. MobileTree on the iPhone or iPod Touch is an efficient and easy way to research family history anytime, anywhere.
New FamilySearch is the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints' genealogy database. MobileTree uses the New FamilySearch database for the application, allowing access to the church's genealogy records.
You may register with New FamilySearch in one of two ways: 1. Through the MobileTree app on the iPhone or iPod Touch. 2. Through the New FamilySearch web site: http://www.new.familysearch.org.
To protect privacy, you cannot see personal information for people who are still living, and you cannot see LDS temple ordinance information for those still living.
At this time, you cannot submit information to New FamilySearch with MobileTree. This option will become available in a future release. For now, you may submit information at http://new.familysearch.org.
It is often hard to know the reliability of information found when doing family history. Citing documents allows other users to know the authenticity of information.
To view the root person's information in a pedigree tree format, turn the iPhone or iPod Touch to landscape view. A help box appears that contains instructions.
To change the root person on MobileTree, you may either use the navigation bar on any page to go back, tap the individual on the pedigree view, or perform a search on the name.
If Internet access is not available, you can only view information already viewed on MobileTree. You cannot not search new information without Internet access. The Internet is available on the iPhone through 3G or Wifi, and on the iPod Touch with Wifi only.
The iPod Touch does not have photographing capabilities. However, you may add pictures to MobileTree profiles by syncing with the iTunes photo gallery.
